Hemp for human healh

The use of Hemp for human health dates back thousands of years. Indian writings, which are some of the oldest documents in the world, praise hemp as a powerful resource which could do anything from provide good health, to opening the path to the Gods. Documentation and archaeological findings prove the use of hemp as a food and a treatment was widespread amongst many ancient peoples. It is believed the first crop was grown by the old Japanese culture of Jōmon, circa 5600 BC.

Modern medicine

However it is only recently the perceived benefits of Hemp have been linked to human physiology and controlled trials have started to prove the medicinal qualities of Hemp are much more than just folklore.

Cannabis

Hemp is botanically Cannabis. There are several sub-species commonly grown: Cannabis Sativa, Cannabis Indica and Cannabis Ruderalis and different strains have been created with very different properties. Industrial hemp is large, fast growing and extremely tough, perfect for textiles. Hemp seed is produced as an edible cereal and for oil that is high in unsaturated fatty acids, Marijuana users are seeking psychoactive effects. The predominant physiologically active components of all Hemp varieties are called Cannabinoids.

The endocannabinoid system

The human Endocannabinoid system, maintains the balance in all critical systems in the human body; the digestive system, reproductive system, nervous system, skeletal & muscular system, endocrine and cardiovascular function, fat burning and the immune system.

The bio chemistry

Cannabinoids work by stimulating the Endocannabinoid system; they interact with cells that have specific receptors - protein molecules on a cell’s surface that react when they come in contact with certain chemical substances. Different receptors react with different substances to cause different reactions such as the release of a hormone or other chemical. When these receptors are activated, they exert an effect on mood, pain sensation, appetite and other biologic responses.

Cannabinoids

Cannabinoid receptors are located in different parts of the body but most importantly, the central nervous system, brain and nerve endings and immune system. The human body creates cannabinoids to fuel the Endocannabinoid system but low levels of Cannabinoids are the cause of many health issues and devastating conditions.

The opportunity

The human system will also recognize and respond to Cannabinoids from external sources, including phyto-cannabinoids from plants. Several plants are known to contain Cannabinoids such as Echinacea but Hemp is currently the only rich source of Cannabinoids. Assisting the Endocannabinoid system by introducing phyto-cannabinoids is the essence of Medical Hemp therapies.

Carun active hemp

Carun controls the production of its Hemp from the field to the store. Uniquely, we grow a strain of Cannabis Sativa that is naturally extremely high in beneficial Cananbinoids and negligibly low in THC. We extract material from the plant using CO2 extraction - carbon dioxide under high pressure at extremely low temperature - to isolate, preserve, and maintain the purity. This creates Active Hemp Oil that is safe, potent and free of chlorophyll.
